Broilers production of the states

2012 cash receipts: Livestock: Broilers

Broilers are catergorized by the USDA as 9 to 12 week old chickens that are produced for meat.

The United States is the world's largest poultry producer and the second-largest egg producer and exporter of poultry meat. U.S. poultry meat production totals over 43 billion pounds annually: over four-fifths is broiler meat; most of the remainder is turkey meat; and a small fraction is other chicken meat.

The table below lists 2012 cash receipts for broilers in order by value and shows each state's contribution to the U.S. whole by percentage.

Georgia leads the way in broiler cash receipts. Georgia, Arkansas, North Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi, combined, make up for over 1/2 of the country's cash receipts for broilers.

The numbers listed for "Value ($1,000)" represent the value of the product or broilers in thousands of dollars. For example, a number listed as 450,000 (four hundred and fifty thousand) equates to an actual value of $450,000,000 (four hundred and fifty million dollars).

Note: Data are not collected by the Economic Research Service in surveys for some minor commodities and for some minor producing states for commodities that are surveyed. This is why percentages do not always add up to 100% and all states that produce a product may not be listed.
