Welcome to Alabama and our brief overview of The Heart of Dixie.

One of the southern states, Alabama is located in the southeastern part of the 48 "conterminous" states. A small stretch of its southern border meets the Gulf of Mexico, providing 53 miles of coastline. It is bordered on the north by Tennessee, on the west by Mississippi and on the east by Georgia and the panhandle of Florida.

  • State flower: Camelia (Camellia japonica L.) adopted 1959.
  • State song: "Alabama", words by Julia S. Tutwiler and music by Edna Gockel-Gussen, adopted in 1931.
  • State tree: Southern longleaf pine (Pinus palustris P. Mill.) adopted 1949.
