Maryland

Maryland is located on the Atlantic Coast, near the middle latitudes of the 48 "conterminous" states. It lies in the northeast corner of the Southern States. Maryland extends from the Delmarva ("Del"aware + "Mar"yland + "V"irgini"a") Peninsula, west along the southern boundary of Pennsylvania. It is bordered on the north by Pennsylvania and on the south by West Virginia and Virginia. Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean border Maryland on the east, and West Virginia and Virginia border Maryland on the west.
Washington, D.C. is cut out of a section of Maryland on the north bank of the Potomac River.
