Welcome to North Carolina and a brief overview of The Tarheel State.

One of the Southern States, North Carolina is located in the southeast part of the 48 "conterminous" states with over 300 miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline. It's bordered on the north by Tennessee and Virginia and on the south by Georgia and South Carolina. North Carolina is bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by Tennessee.

  • State flower: Dogwood (Cornus florida) adopted 1941.
  • State song: "The Old North State", words by William Joseph Gaston, traditional melody collected and arranged by Mrs. E. E. Randolph, adopted 1927.
  • State tree: Pine tree (Pinus spp.) adopted 1963.
